How Tether works

Leave everything they need.
In your own words.

Tether is where you put the documents, the instructions, and the messages you never got around to saying — so the people you love have all of it when the time comes.

Why Tether exists

The problem isn’t that people don’t care. It’s that caring and doing are two different things.

86% of Americans know they should have a plan. Only 14% have one. When something happens, families are left searching for documents that don’t exist, guessing at wishes that were never written down, and missing the voice of someone they loved.

55%of Americans have zero estate documents
51%face financial hardship after losing a loved one
80%underestimate the importance of a digital afterlife plan
Your StuffDocuments, accounts, passwords, insurance — organized and assigned to the right people
Your WishesInstructions and values — the personal context your family will need to understand your decisions
Your VoiceVideo and audio messages — for the milestones you won’t be there for, in your exact words

No other product does all three. Estate planning tools cover your stuff. Tether covers all of it — including the things a will can’t hold.

Legacy planning

What legacy planning actually is.

Legacy planning is deciding — while you are alive and thinking clearly — what you want your family and friends to have, know, and remember after you are gone. That’s it.

  • It is not about how old you are
  • It is not about how much money you have
  • It is not about death being imminent

It is about being intentional — instead of leaving your family to figure it out in the worst possible moment.

76%of adults have never written down their final wishes
68%of Americans have no will or estate plan
$12Kaverage legal cost when no clear plan exists
What you want them to haveDocuments, accounts, passwords, property deeds, and personal files — organized and assigned to the right people
What you want them to knowYour memoir, your values, your instructions, and your wishes — the context your family needs to understand your decisions and honor them
What you want them to rememberVideo and audio messages, photos, and letters — for the milestones you won’t be there for, exactly when it matters

A will handles your assets. Tether handles everything else. The things that matter most — your words, your memories, your presence — no legal document can deliver those. Tether can.

The process

Four steps. One place.
Complete peace of mind.

Set it up once. It’s there forever.

1
Getting started

You set up your account
and designate your team

In under 10 minutes, you create your account, designate a Release Manager — the person who will initiate delivery when the time comes — and add your recipients: the people who will receive what you leave.

  • Your Release Manager cannot access anything until a Release Plan is started — they hold the keys, not the contents
  • You can designate up to 2 Guardian backups in case your Release Manager is ever unavailable
  • Recipients receive a warm invitation explaining that someone they love has set something aside for them
2
Building your legacy

You add what
matters most

Upload documents. Record video and audio messages. Write or record your memoir. Add photos with stories attached. Assign each item to specific recipients so the right person receives exactly what was meant for them.

  • Record video messages directly in your browser — no app, no installation required
  • Upload wills, insurance policies, financial account information, and any document your family might need
  • Each item is individually assigned — your daughter can receive something your spouse does not, and vice versa
  • Everything is encrypted at rest and accessible only through secure authenticated portals
3
The release mechanism

Your Release Manager
starts the delivery

When the time comes, your designated Release Manager logs into their portal and initiates the Release Plan. This process takes just a few clicks. They confirm, select a reason, and begin the process.

  • Tether never asks for a death certificate, a court order, or any verification — delivery is a human decision
  • A 5-calendar-day window begins — giving the account owner time to cancel if that release was premature or in error
  • Every party is notified immediately — Account Owner, Release Manager, and Recipients
  • If your Release Manager cannot act, a Guardian can step in — the backup chain is always in place
4
The moment that matters

Your recipients
receive everything

After the delivery window, every recipient receives a secure email with access to their private portal — containing only what was meant for them. They can watch messages, read documents, and download files. No login required. Just a link and lifetime access.

  • Each Recipient sees only what was meant for them — complete privacy between Recipients
  • Portals remain accessible indefinitely — there is no expiration on receiving a message from someone you loved
  • Recipients who become Tether users through their portal receive 25% off their Tether account — the love compounds
What your family receives

Not just documents.
The lasting legacy of you.

Everything Tether delivers is something that would have been lost without it.

Your voice

Video and audio messages in the exact words you choose, delivered to the exact people you designated, at the moment they need to hear them most.

“The last video my dad left me — I watch it on hard days. He’s been gone four years. I still have him.”

Your documents

Wills, insurance policies, financial accounts, passwords, property deeds — everything in one place, the first time it matters. Not discovered in a box months later.

“We found Mom’s life insurance policy through Tether. We never would have known where to look.”

Your story

Your memoir, your values, your wishes — the things that can’t be written in a legal document but that your family needs to understand who you were and what mattered to you.

“I didn’t know my mother had written down chapters about her childhood until Tether delivered them. I felt like I met her.”
